Step onto the hallowed grounds of Worksop Golf Club, the original home of golfing legend Lee Westwood. This iconic course, known for its challenges and natural beauty, hosted a thrilling pairs better-ball event for 176 golfers. Join us as we delve into the highlights of the day and celebrate the exceptional performances amidst the unique tests presented by Worksop Golf Club.
A True Test of Golf
Worksop Golf Club offers more than just a lengthy course; its true challenges lie in the tightness of the holes. Lined with silver birch, gorse, and bracken, each hole demands strategic shot placement rather than relying solely on power. Golfers soon discovered that using the driver on every occasion may not always be the wisest choice. The damp conditions added an additional layer of complexity, but the firm nature of the fairways provided surprising distances, with long irons and three-woods often traveling further than expected.
Liam Pucill Shines
Liam Pucill's exceptional round stole the spotlight as he delivered a remarkable -3 gross score off his handicap of 1. His outstanding performance, coupled with his partner Lee's contributions, led them to an impressive 45 points. Liam's skill and precision on the course demonstrated his mastery of the game, showcasing a truly superb effort.
Long Drives and Near Misses
The par 5 6th hole witnessed impressive long drives, with Sandra Fullerton claiming the women's longest drive and Dean Musther seizing the men's title. While there were no early season HIOs (hole-in-ones) on the challenging downhill 8th hole, Sam Spooner exhibited accuracy and finesse to secure the nearest the pin prize on the final hole.

As the event at Worksop Golf Club came to a close, anticipation grew for the next golfing destination. Tomorrow, the golfers will move a few junctions up the M1 to the esteemed Hallamshire Golf Club, eagerly awaiting another day of memorable challenges and remarkable golf.
