Royal Dornoch - Friday 26th August

Royal Dornoch is spellbinding and many golfers from all over the world make the pilgrimage to this natural links at some point in their lives. It is often quoted as one of the “must-play courses”
The curving bay of the Dornoch Firth and its magnificent white broad beaches are backed by a narrow strip of softly contoured dune land rising in two distinctive levels, providing just enough room for parallel fairways. The ridges, hillocks, dunes and undulating links land have all the characters of the best of links courses, and most of the difficulties.
The first eight holes follow the ridge and the remaining ten holes played in the opposite direction are bounded, except the 17th and 18th on the left by the sandy beaches of the firth. The conditions for the first day of this two day event at Royal Dornoch were super with a stunning sunrise for the early starters at 06.43! We had a packed field across the two days off 190 golfers from around the UK.
Best dressed was a lovely lady Dennis Parker with a bucket hat and pretty pink outfit.
The nearest pin on the 2nd hole was won by Ewan shearer. This has to be the best nearest pin on the day with the wicked drop offs around the green causing havoc for the golfers today.
Longest drive was the 7th, a beautiful hole with a ocean back drop. The early starters got there names on the boards early while the wind was down and of course they stayed in there. Cam Grinyer won the mens and Sharron Rich won the ladies. Well done guys The HIO hole was the 10th, right down on the beach front with stunning views. We gave everyone a chance today with it been under 150 yards, but unfortunately no takers today.
We stay at Royal Dornoch tomorrow on the Struie course for the finally of this two day event.
Day 2:
Todays “Struie of the day” was the Struie golf course and the second day of our tournament at Royal Dornoch.
There are many admirers of Royal Dornoch Struie Course, which is ranked in the UK top 50 links courses.
The course originally opened as a 12 hole Ladies course in 1899 and opened to the present 18 holes in 1999. The work of Donald Steel and his design team back in the 1990s encapsulates natural Scottish Links golf, working with the natural landscape, local plant and wildlife, the layout incorporates many of the unique Dornoch features.
The conditions for the second day were similar to the first, with a slightly stronger breeze on the less exposed Struie.
Congratulations to all the nearest the pin and longest drive winners today. some Fantastic shots including 2 massive tee shots!
Best dressed was a hard pick today and you some very plain looking golfers! So we decided to give a best club cover prize instead, Miguel Heliodoro they were great!
The Scotland marathon continues tomorrow with the start of the 3 day speyside event! Starting with the world renowned Castle Stuart.
