Isle of Purbeck Singles - 11th October 2023

Wednesday 11th October saw us venture down south to the Harry Colt designs Isle of Purbeck Golf Club in Swanage, The foggy start to the morning lifted around 8:00 to show stunning views of Poole harbor and the Purbeck hills.

A fairly cold and breezy start to a day where the sun never really showed itself meant tough scoring conditions for our 128 competitions in a day where the average score for a player in the field was 26 points, the daunting tee shots over the heather and sloping quick greens taking to prisoners!

Only 1 player on the day bettered their handicap - Michael Atkins returning triumphantly with 37 points in Division 1, finishing 2 clear of Ian Pack in 2nd with 35, 3rd was Paul Lawrence with 34 (and also our lowest gross round of the day at 5 over par) and 4th Craig Beadle with 33.

DIvision 2 was exceptionally right with regular Stephane Massey coming out on top with 34 points beating Timothy Forshaw on countback who also had 34, 3rd was Jon Stradling with 32 and 4th Mick Bignell also with 32 points.

The 2nd best score of the day came from Jon Cox in Division 3 with 36 points, finishing 2 clear of Ron Sloane in 2nd with 34, and 3 clear of Stephen Young in 3rd with 33, 4th place went to Richard Sealey with 32.

The par 3 challenge was won on coutnack by James Allen who had a better back 9 than Timothy Forshaw who also finished with 10 points for the par 3’s.

The IRC 4 Hole competition was won by David Mulvey with 12 points for his 4 holes which was 2 under par - well played David!)

FInally the longest drives and Nearest the Pin: Fran Campbell and Matt Clark the longest and straightest as they take home the longest drive prizes.

Nearest the pin all day sat about 12 feet from the hole, the strong wind making it difficult to get close until Kevin Caswell stepped late in the day up and knocked it to a couple of inches and calmly tapped in for his 2!

Thankyou to everyone who participated - we look forward to seeing you again soon!
